Welcome to Formed by Fire: Stories That Kindle the Soul

As the first snowflakes of Advent dust the world outside my window, I sit here in the quiet glow of my farmhouse desk, a cup of spiced tea in hand, and feel the profound joy of launching this space—Formed by Fire. For years, as a Catholic psychologist, LMFT, and certified coach, I’ve walked alongside souls seeking healing and holiness, drawing from the unquenchable fire of Christ’s love to guide them toward lives rooted in faith. This website is the hearth where that mission comes alive: a gathering place for stories, reflections, and resources that help us all deepen our spirituality and live out this life with Christ, just as my bio whispers in every quiet session and prayer. Influenced by the literary giants who shaped my imagination—G.K. Chesterton’s paradoxical wonder in the ordinary and J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic tales of providence amid the shadows—I’ll weave threads of beauty, truth, and grace here. Think of it as a digital shire, inviting you to hobbit-like adventures in the soul, where even the smallest holly bush can bear witness to divine restoration.

Today, as my web launch gift to you, I’m sharing a free Advent story PDF: “God’s Little Holly Bush”. Born from my love for children’s literature that echoes the greats—Chesterton’s childlike gaze at creation’s “tremendous trifles” and Tolkien’s sub-creation where every leaf whispers of the Maker—this tale is for families, especially those navigating the winter of the heart. In it, a humble holly bush faces uprooting winds and inner longings for more, only to find its place beside the manger through the faithful watch of cardinals and a heavenly touch. It’s more than a story; it’s a parable of how God plants us exactly where we belong, turning trials into testimonies of eternal love. Download it here (link to your PDF), complete with a fun “Follow the Cardinals’ Song” activity to spark family conversations about guidance, hope, and God’s watchful care.

The Spark of Story: Healing Through Imagination

In my practice, I’ve seen how stories heal. As a psychologist, I know the power of narrative therapy—reframing our “uprootings” through tales that mirror our journeys. But as a Catholic, I see it deeper: Stories are sacraments of the imagination, inviting us into the grand narrative of salvation. Chesterton, that “apostle of common sense,” reminds us in Orthodoxy that “fairyland is nothing but the sunny country of common sense,” where even winter winds point to the light. Tolkien, crafting Middle-earth as a reflection of our own, shows providence weaving through peril—like the humble hobbits who carry the Ring not by strength, but by steadfast smallness. “God’s Little Holly Bush” draws from this legacy: The holly, prickly yet evergreen, symbolizes our souls—wounded but resilient, berried with graces that outlast the frost. The cardinals? Emblems of Christ’s loving vigilance, their red song a call to trust amid the chill, echoing the Holy Spirit’s fire in Catholic tradition.

For children (and the child in us all), the activity turns reading into play: Imagine following and coloring the cardinals across simple black-and-white scenes, reflecting with questions like, “How does God turn your worries into songs of joy?” It’s designed for your Advent wreath evenings or quiet family moments—low-prep, just 10-15 minutes of bonding that plants seeds of faith. As a Catholic psychologist and coach with Formed by Fire, I’ve seen how such gentle prompts foster healing and holiness at home; here, it’s an invitation to evangelize through the beauty of creation, echoing Pope John Paul II’s wisdom that “from the greatness and beauty of created things comes a corresponding perception of their Creator” (Wis 13:5).

Formed by Fire: My Mission, Your Invitation

At the heart of Formed by Fire is this truth: We are all forged in the refining fire of God’s love—psychologically whole, spiritually aflame. My coaching program isn’t just sessions; it’s a path to holiness, blending evidence-based tools with Catholic wisdom to heal past wounds, embrace present graces, and mission into the future. Influenced by Chesterton’s humble orthodoxy—where paradox meets the pearl of great price—and Tolkien’s eucatastrophe (that joyful turn from despair to dawn), I help clients like you discover your unique shire: A life where faith isn’t abstract, but as tangible as a holly berry.

This launch marks the beginning. Join my Circle Space community for exclusive stories, retreats-inspired readings, and coaching insights. As Tolkien’s Gandalf might say, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us”—and in Advent, let’s decide to watch, wait, and wonder.

In the spirit of the season, here’s a prayer to close:
Lord, like the little holly, root us in Your eternal love. Amid winds and winter, send Your cardinals of grace to guide our hearts. Form us by Your fire, that we may bear fruit for Your kingdom. Amen.

Thank you for being here. Let’s kindle the light together.
